Importing Your Data

Importing your data into CompleteDTC is remarkably straightforward:

  • if you are starting from scratch, we have template spreadsheets you can use to organize things
  • if you're coming from another management system, we've built tools to import the data dumps they provide you

Either way, there are certain core principles to keep in mind.

First, customer information is organized around email addresses: whenever our system sees a new email address, it sets up a new record.

So it's really important to check every email address to make sure it is valid! It's also important to use the same email address to reference the same person across the different data sets (for example, customers, club members, and orders).

We strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to make sure the data you import is

  • clean -- fix typos now, while it's all in one place
  • complete -- fill in as much as you can
  • consistent -- for example, make sure every reference to a person uses the same email

That said, CompleteDTC is very flexible, so if something isn't right at the start it's usually simple to fix it after importing (for example, if you have more than one record for an individual, it's simple to merge them).
